Hiking in Skeikampen

Skeikampen is a small informal holiday hiking and biking resort at the foot of the Skeikampen Mountain in the Gudbrandsdalen Valley area.

Slagsfjellrunden
Suitable for intermediate to good hikers. The altitude difference on the hike is 397 metres. The track is well marked.

From the centre of Skeikampen you hike into the area of Torsdalen, on the east side of Skeikampen. Hike up and over Prestkampen and Slagsfjell where you will experience a fantastic view. Notice that there are two ascendants up to Prestkampen, the fastest one is also the steepest. Hike on down to Fyksesætra by Lake Nisju, on to Trisnipp seter, over Paradis, and back to Skeikampen. This path can be combined with other paths.

  • Distance: 25 kilometres
  • Time: Approximately seven hours

Kyrakampen-Knutsholoa
Suitable for intermediate hikers. Altitude difference on the hike is 256 metres. The track is well marked. Some wet areas to cross.

From the centre of Skeikampen, follow the path down to Paradis. About 200 metres after the bridge, take to the right along the road to Kleve seter. Follow west to Kyrakampen, past the cave. Follow the path on to Veslesetra. From there take it left, and follow the path to Trisnipp setergrend. Take the same path back to Skeikampen.

  • Time: Approximately five hours

Around the mountain of Skeikampen
Suitable for intermediate hikers. Altitude difference on the hike is 266 metres. The track is well marked. Some wet areas to cross.

From the centre of Skeikampen you hike into the area of Torsdalen, on the east side of Skeikampen. Hike up and follow the tracks as it runs left around the north side of Avlundskampen and Skeikampen. The track will take you back to Skeikampen, crossing several ski slopes and lifts along the hike south. Nice and varied terrain. Can be combined with the Peer Gynt path over Skeikampen.

  • Distance: Eight kilometres
  • Time: Approximately four hours 

Trail to historic Helgafossen Falls

Suitable for all. Easy terrain. The track is well marked.
The Helgafossen trail is tailored for families. The round trip covers around four kilometres of flat terrain.
Follow the red marked trail by the side of the Skeiselva river all the way down to the Helgafossen Waterfall.
In the old days, guests used to swim in the river and at Helgafossen. There was even a bathing hut so that guests could change into their swimming costumes with their modesty intact.

Distance: Four kilometres Time: Approximately one - two hours

Where is Skeikampen?

Skeikampen is located 35 minutes north west of Lillehammer, three hours north of Oslo, four hours south of Trondheim by car.

Getting to Skeikampen

By train to Lillehammer, and pick-up or local bus to Skeikampen.
By car: The main thoroughfare E6 from Oslo to Lillehammer (or from Trondheim to Tretten), and local road 255/254 to Skeikampen (45 minutes).

Season

The hiking season is from the end of May until the beginning of October.
