Arctic adventures with Svalbard Villmarkssenter

Svalbard Villmarkssenter offers dog sledding, hiking, skiing and other sports activities in wild nature in the Svalbard Islands.

Svalbard Villmarkssenter is located in Longyearbyen in the Svalbard Islands, which are situated in the Barents Sea, halfway between Norway and the North Pole.

Activities on offer

The main activity is dog sledding - you can choose between a standard day trip or trips lasting up to 10-days. The long trips include skiing and kiting. You can also go dog sledding on wheels in the summer.

Other activities on offers include hiking trips, wilderness evenings, ski trips and kite training. Svalbard Villmarkssenter also offers accommodation.

When to travel

Most of the dog sledding, skiing and kiting happens from February through May. The hiking trips are arranged from June to November.

Getting there

The easiest way of getting to Svalbard is by air. Most of the year, there are daily flights from Oslo directly to Longyearbyen, or via Tromsø. From Oslo the flight time is 2 hours and 50 minutes, and from Tromsø it is 1 hour and 40 minutes. Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) operates this route. The islands' airport is Svalbard Airport Longyear. There is no regular boat transportation between the Norwegian mainland and Svalbard. There are no roads between the settlements on the islands.
