By plane
Stavanger is only two hours from London and 90 minutes from Copenhagen. To/from the airport, Stavanger Airport Sola, there are direct flights to/from 54 destinations in Norway and abroad. In fact the Stavanger Region has Norway's second largest airport when it comes to international air traffic. There are direct flights to/from Copenhagen, London, Aberdeen, Newcastle, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Billund, Gothenburg, Stockholm and Nice, to mention but a few.
A shuttle bus links the airport and the centre of Stavanger. It departs every 20 minutes and travel time is approximately 30 minutes. The airport bus stops at several hotels in the city centre, as well as at the main bus/train station and boat terminal. There are also car rental companies at the airport if you prefer to hire a car.
By car
It is also easy to reach the Stavanger Region by car. The following roads lead to the region: the North Sea Road, highway E39, the scenic Suleskarvegen and the Fjord Road.

By train
If you prefer to take the train the scenic line from Oslo to Stavanger offers varied and contrasting experiences. The train ride takes eight hours. For timetables and booking, please contact the Norwegian State Railways (NSB).
By ferry and express boat
If you would like to bring your car with you from abroad you can take the Color Line ferry from Hirtshals in Denmark to Kristiansand, which is about a four-hour drive from Stavanger, or you can take the Fjord Line ferry to Tananger, which is about 20 minutes from Stavanger.
The express boats (Flaggruten) have two daily departures between Stavanger and Bergen. Approximate travel time is four and a half hours.
By express bus
Nor-Way Bussekspress has several daily departures from Bergen, Oslo and Kristiansand to Stavanger. The approximate travel time from Bergen is five hours, from Kristiansand four hours and from Oslo 10 hours. There are also good connections by bus to and from Haugesund.
Getting around
The local bus company Kolumbus makes it easy to travel in the Stavanger Region. You can buy a single ticket, a day pass, a three-day pass or a week pass entitling you to unlimited travel on all local buses. They also offer a good travel planner application for Iphones and Android smartphones (Norwegian only).
The local train between Stavanger and Egersund departs at least once every hour, providing easy access to the Jæren area. At Brusand and Ogna station, the beaches are within walking distance - about 15 minutes away.
From the boat terminal in Stavanger you can choose from a number of passenger boats to the areas of Ryfylke, as well as to the islands just outside Stavanger.
