In Kvamskogen, about 45 minutes from Bergen, you will find Eikedalen Skisenter which has six ski tows and one chair lift. There are 12 alpine pistes covering a total of 15 kilometres.
Furedalen Alpin has two ski tows and a difference in altitude of 205 metres. There are 6 alpine pistes covering a total of 7,7 kilometres. The children’s ski tow is in a sheltered area with excellent skiing.
Voss, situated 115 kilometres from Bergen, and is one of the biggest skiing areas in the county. Voss Resort has 10 lifts and tows to take you up to the slopes. 40 kilometres of prepared pistes await you. There is also a snowboard park and a children’s tow. If you want to learn to ski, you can take skiing lessons. Voss Fjellandsby in Myrkdalen has four ski tows. There is an alpine piste and a more gentle family slope. In addition there is a wonderful off-piste area.
If you get hungry and cold while skiing, most of the ski centres have restaurants, cafés and lounges. If you are a night owl, you can use the flood-lit tracks.
When the lifts stop running for the day, it is time for after–ski fun and a good meal. Voss offers a good selection of cafés, pubs and restaurants, as well as piano bars and nightclubs. Take a part in one of the "Smalahovelag" – a traditional Sheep’s Head Feast – before you leave Voss.
Bergen is famous for the ginger snap city made every December. Kindergartens, schools and also private persons send their contribution of ginger snap houses to the miniature city of Bergen. In 2008, the exhibition is located in Skostredet 2. The exhibition can be seen the entire month of December.
For those who enjoy speed and excitement, try sledging down Fløien. Sledges can be bought from toy stores and sport shops. Buy a one-day ''sledge-card'' (NOK 140 for adults and NOK 70 for children) with the Fløibanen Funicular. The card is valid from early morning to late at night. The tracks illuminated after dark. Why not have a cup of hot chocolate at the café at the top in between the rides?
Bergens Tidende, Bergen's local newspaper, invites you to concerts, fireworks and other fun activities in the city centre. The Lysfesten Festival takes place by Lake Lille Lungårdsvann and starts at 4 pm on Saturday 1 December.
