Name: Alan and Janis Barber Age: 70 and 61Nationality: British
Reason for visit: To walk and explore the western fjords of Norway.
How long are you staying? Four weeks in total, one week in the area around the Sognefjord.
Where have you been? We arrived Hafslo yesterday, came from Hardangervidda. We also stayed in Øvre Årdal for a few days, and joined the local “turlag” for an arranged tour. But we have already been up to Molden, which has been on of our best walks so far, absolutely beautiful. We are staying at Gløtten Hytter (Haflso) which is a very good accommodation, and the farmer/owner has been very helpful and welcoming.
Where are you going? Today we are going do to the walk from Bergset to Bergsetbreen (Jostedalsbreen) in Jostedal. Then we will continue on our journey towards Bergen, before we take the ferry to England.
Best experience? Why? Here, the best experience must be the walk up to Molden, because of the midsummer light, the birch trees and the great view of Jotunheimen, glaciers and fjords. Just what we were looking for.
Biggest surprise? That must be the marvellous weather. Travelling by car is also very easy. The ferries are very efficient and there are excellent roads. It’s wasn’t really a big surprise to us but people have been really helpful, and almost everyone speaks English.
Suggestions to other visitors? Come to Norway in June before the busy period. You will have more choices, cheaper accommodation and lovely midsummer light.
