卑尔根（Bergen）的老码头时刻提醒着人们：在14世纪至16世纪中期，这里曾是汉萨贸易同盟（Hanseatic League）的重要组成部分。
1955年底的几场大火把布吕根（Bryggen）码头最有特色的木制城市住宅全部烧毁。后来人们根据老屋的图纸和传统的建造方法进行了重建，使得老宅的主体结构得以保存下来；充分还原了北欧地区历史上一度非常普遍的木制城市住宅。今天，这里约有62幢房屋，使本地区依然保留着原始的城镇风貌。
