Around Hurumlandet

Drammen – Svelvik – Klokkarstua – Holmsbu (approximately 40 kilometres, a 45-minute drive)
Drive rv. 319 from Drammen along the Drammenfjord to the small town of Svelvik. Get on the ferry to Verket in Hurum.

At Verket you follow rv. 289 to Klokkarstua and turn south on rv. 281 to Holmsbu. Holmsbu is a typical Norwegian seaside village with classical white wooden houses. Here you will also find a marina, and, especially during the summer, lots of people out to enjoy the sea, sun and cosy restaurants. You can also visit Holmsbu Art Gallery, play golf at Myhrene Gård or enjoy a meal at Holmsbu Bad & Fjordhotell.

From Holmsbu you can either drive rv. 281 to Klokkarstua and then follow the coastal road north through Hyggen and then take the E23 back to Drammen. Or take rv. 281 to Klokkarstua and then drive eastwards along rv. 289 to Sætre, a cosy village by the Oslofjord, and then follow the E23 back to Drammen.

Holmsbu – Rødtangen – Tofte – Filtvet – Sætre (approximately 45 kilometres, a 45-minute drive)
Drive southwards from Holmsbu to Rødtangen with its beautiful view of the Drammenfjord. Then drive back to Holmsbu and follow rv. 281 to Klokkarstua. Turn southwards on rv. 281 to Tofte and Filtvet.

At Filtvet you can visit the old lighthouse, walk along the beach or enjoy a delicious meal at Villa Malla. Then drive north along rv. 281 to Sætre, a cosy village by the Oslofjord. Sætre also has a lively marina.

From Sætre you can either go directly to Drammen along E23. Or you can take the coastal road further north (see description under).

Sætre – Nærsnes – Slemmestad – Drammen (approximately 43 kilometres, a 50-minute drive)
Drive northwards from Sætre along the coastal road to Åros, Båtstø, Nærsnes and Slemmestad. Along this road you get a great view of the Oslofjord. You can visit the Museum of Geology in Slemmestad, where they have a collection of Røyken granite. From there you go back to Drammen on rv. 165 and then rv. 23.

The Lierdalen Valley

In Lierdalen, fruit and vegetables are abundant. This makes the trip through the valley a unique experience - in the spring the fruit trees blossom and in the autumn it is time for the harvest. If you look closely, you can see signs of how the ice from the last ice-age has sculptured the landscape. There are three lage moraines in the valley.

You get to Lier by driving the E18 northwards from Drammen to Kjellstad, and then follow the signs to Lierbyen. Continue along rv. 285 on the east side of the valley until you get to Sylling. There you get a great look at Holsfjorden, part of a larger lake called Tyrifjorden. Drive on the west side of the valley on your way back.

The rural district of Eiker

Drammen – Hokksund – Vestfossen (approximately 25 kilometres, a 25-minute drive)
Take rv. 283 from Drammen along the Drammen River and then rv. 35 to Hokksund. Visit Nøstetangen Museum which is based on the cultural heritage of Nøstetangen Glasværk. Nøstetangen Glasværk, Norway's first glassworks, was established in 1741 and produced table glasses and chandeliers in the German and English style.

From Hokksund you can follow rv. 35 and E134 to Vestfossen. Here you will find Vestfossen Kunstlaboratorium, an internationally known arena for contemporary art.

From Vestfossen you can either drive to Mjøndalen and back to Drammen. Or you can follow this alternative Vestfossen – Eikeren - Sande.

Vestfossen – Eikeren - Sande (approximately 40 kilometres, a 35-minute drive)
Follow rv. 35 from Vestfossen along the idyllic Lake Eikeren. Eikeren is a large lake that is a bit like the fjords on the west coast of Norway; long, narrow and deep. Why not take a trip with the tourist ferry "M/S Eikern"? The lake is also suitable for canoeing, and the surrounding area is nice for biking.

After passing Lake Eikeren, you take rv. 319 to Sande. From Sande you can take the direct route E18 to Drammen, or drive rv. 319 to Berger and then continue along the Drammenfjord to Drammen via Svelvik.

Sande - Berger – Drammen (approximately 50 kilometres, a 50-minute drive)
Drive rv. 319 from Sande to Berger. Here you will find Fossekleiva Brukssenter with Berger Museum and small shops where they make handicrafts. Continue from Berger on rv. 319 through Svelvik and along the Drammenfjord to Drammen.

Biking

The trips above can also be made by bicycle. However, stay away from the main roads (E23, E18 and E134). Choose the smaller roads, they are more interesting and you are likely to meet other cyclists along the road.

If you want more tour suggestions for biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, canoeing or boating, please contact the local tourist information offices.
