Follo is only a 20-minute drive south of Oslo.
Nearly 117,000 inhabitants live in the Follo Region which consists of the municipalities Frogn, Oppegård, Ski, Vestby, Ås, Nesodden and Enebakk. Many of the towns and villages in Follo are situated beside the Oslofjord, for example Nesoddtangen, Drøbak and Son. There are several beaches in the region which are very popular during the summer months.
Son, Drøbak and Hvitsten first became known as artists' colonies in the mid-nineteenth century. Well-known Norwegian painters and writers were attracted to the Follo coast because of the beautiful scenery, the Oslofjord and the special light.
The many discoveries of prehistoric hill forts, burial mounds and rock carvings in the areas cultivated during the Stone and Bronze Ages indicate that the Follo region has always been an attractive place to live in.
