Gjøvik, Land and Toten offers excellent angling opportunities and is easily accessible for people travelling to Norway by boat, car or plane. From Oslo, it takes only 1 hour and 30 minutes by car to reach a large number of lakes and rivers.

The most common fish species are trout, pike and perch.

If you wish to try your luck in a mountain lake, several of the local lakes are easily accessible and well-suited for angling.

Wherever in the world you travel for an angling adventure, chances are high that the fish hook you will be using was made by Mustad. For more than one hundred years, Mustad has been known as the world's largest producer of fish hooks. The commercial fairy tale started in Gjøvik some 175 years ago.

Accommodation and tour providers

Gjøvik Vandrerhjem Hovdetun
The youth hostel Gjøvik Vandrerhjem Hovdetun is beautifully situated alongside a small forest lake, Hovdetjernet, in Gjøvik. There are excellent angling possibilities within walking distance of the youth hostel.

A special fish cleaning room and access to freezing facilities means that you can bring your catch home with you. Spacious outdoor area for recreational activities.

Kistefoss Træsliperi
Hire a cabin or summer farm through Kistefoss Træsliperi. The company also offers a wide range of hunting and fishing adventures, as well as guided tours.

Most of the cabins are located alongside lakes. You can also hire cabins that are located in the recently heritage-listed Skjellingshovde Nature Reserve. The huts near lakes have boats. 

You can choose between high-standard cabins featuring electricity and indoor plumbing, or you can rent a charming lumber hut/summer farm featuring propane and wood heating.

Sillongen Toten Hotell
A total of five excellent angling lakes with pike, trout, perch, roach, carp and crayfish can be found within a short walking distance of the hotel.

Sale of fishing permits, boat rental and possibilities for hiring an angling guide.

Fish cleaning room and freezing facilities enable you to bring your catch back home with you.

Only 15 minutes by car to Lake Mjøsa, which also offers excellent angling possibilities.

Facilities at the hotel:

  • Hotel: Restaurant and bar (licensed to serve alcohol), hotel rooms with a view of Lake Sillongen or golf course, bathroom/shower and WC, cable-TV and free access to wireless Internet. Golf course with practice area and restaurant, rambling trails, mushroom and berry-picking terrain, outdoor Jacuzzi, lakeside beach, minigolf course.
  • Huts/ Holiday homes: three bedrooms with a total of 6-8 bed spaces, living room with cable TV, fireplace and terrace. Fully equipped kitchen and bathroom with shower/WC.

Angling packages Sillongen Toten Hotell:

  1. Including fishing permit, rental of boat, room and board (including breakfast buffet), lunch buffet (or lunch pack) and three-course dinner. Price per day for minimum three days: NOK 950 per person. Extra for single room.
  2. Including fishing permit, rental of boat, rental of holiday home with self-catering. From NOK 325 per person, per day for minimum six people. Extra for final cleaning.

The hotel can pick you up at the train or bus station. A car hire service is offered as well.

Spåtind Høyfjellshotell
Spåtind Høyfjellshotell is located in the beautiful Synnfjellet Mountains – on the mountain plateau between the Gudbrandsdalen Valley and Valdres.

Enjoy angling for trout in local rivers or by rod, net or otter-board in picturesque mountain lakes. Some 40 different lakes feature plenty of trout, and in some lakes you can fish for Arctic char and powan. Wonderful angling rivers (Dokkelva and Lenna) and spectacular streams. There is even a special lake with wheelchair access. Most lakes are located within a short distance of a vehicle road.

Many lakes have trout in excess of one kilo, and catches around a 1/2 kilo are common. Giant Arctic char can be caught in Lake Sæbu-Røssjøen lake. Some lakes are ideally suited for children who wish to try out their fishing luck for the first time.

The hotel has rowing boats and kayaks for hire.

  • Price for 4-bed apartment NOK 1,190 per day
  • Price for 6-bed apartment NOK 1,490 per day
  • Price for 4-bed hut NOK 990 per day, including final cleaning, bedding and  towels
  • Price for 8-bed hut NOK 1,290 per day, including final cleaning, bedding and towels
  • Half price for the third, fifth and seventh day
  • Hotel with half pension NOK 695 per person in double room. An extra charge of NOK 150 per day for single room.
