Many of these trips are suitable for both for hiking and skiing. Remember to respect the mountains and make sure that you have good enough equipment with you, remembering that the weather can change suddenly. Especially during winter, do not forget to seek advice from the locals. The snow and weather conditions may vary.
Mysuseter - Rondvassbu
From the start you have a nice view west towards Formokampen by Høvringen and to Jotunheimen and its peaks Glittertind and Kvitingskjølen.
On top of the hill you have a nice view to the north and the montain tops Smiubelgen, Smedhamran, Svartnut, Rondeslottet and Storronden.
It is possible to go by car as far as to Spranget; here there is a turnpike. From this point it is a one and a half-hour hike to Rondvassbu Cabin.
At Spranget the Ula River passes a narrow mountain pass. To jump over here is no longer possible, as it used to be, because one of the sides in the pass has fallen. Just after Spranget, you cross the border to Rondane National Park.
Time: Three hours
Rondvassbu - Bjørnhollia
Two options:
A) Through Illmanndalen Valley
Cairned. Steep from Rondvassbu Cabin and then through the broad valley called Illmanndalen. By walking a little above the cairned path on the northern bank of Lake Fremre Illmanntjønn, you will find several pit traps with fences which lead to the traps.
Long rise up the valley with nice views to Illmannhø and Simlepiggen. On a clear day, you will be able to see Rendalssøn in the east and Jotunheimen, especially Glittertind in the west.
Halfway you will pass a huge moraine. Then you walk down through a forest of birches to Bjørnhollia.
Time: Four hours
B) Through Langglupdalen Valley
Take the boat from Rondvassbu to the northern bank of Lake Rondvatnet. You then continue nortwards through Ronvassdalen Valley to the small Lake Bergedalstjørn.
Continue along the eastern bank of the lake and up to the cairned path to Dørålseter. Follow this path into Langglupdalen Valley between Digerronden and Midtronden in the north and spur of Rondeslottet in the south.
You then continue along some moraines to small bridge across the Langglupåi Stream and round to the east side of Veslesvulten to Bjørnhollia Cabin.
Time: Five hours
Rondvassbu - Storronden
Cairned. Steep ascend up from Rondvassbu Cabin and past the crossing to Bjørhollia.
Continue on the small slope, before ascending a little steeper again up the hillsides and terraces. There is a great view from the top of Storronden, which is the second highest in Rondane (2,138 metres above sea level). Just east of the cairn, there is a cliff. Be careful, do not go to close to the edge of the cliff, there may be some loose stones.
Time: Four hours up and down
Rondvassbu - Veslesmeden
Cairned. Start at Rondvassbu Cabin and cross the bridge over the Ula River. Continue on the trail north of the deep Jutulhogget Canyon in the direction of Svarthammaren.
Walk past the trail-crossing to the trail through Langholet, and continue towards Rondhalsen. After passing Svarthammaren, the cairns towards Veslesmeden stand towards the northwest.
You are rewarded with a very nice view as you walk on along the "back" towards the northwest and to the top of Veslesmeden (a small ascend). Needles to say A special view. This trip to Veslesmeden can be combined with the trail to Dørålseter.
Time: Five hours up and down
Rondvassbu - Dørålseter
Two options:
A) Via Rondhalsen
Follow route no. 5 from Rondvassbu Cabin until you get to the crossing at Rondhalsen (crossing route to Dørålseter and the route to Veslesmeden).
Continue up through Rondhalsen and follow the steep path down to Rondvassdalen Valley, north of Lake Rondvatnet. During the summer you can take a boat across the lake. Follow the valley towards the north to the small lakes Bergedalstjørni. These small lakes mark the water-shed between Rondvassdalen and Bergedalen. Towards the east lies the Langglupdalen Valley.
You then follow the cairns that go along the western side of Bergedalsbekken Stream, across the Storflya and down towards Dørålseter Cabin. Enjoy the nice view towards the north to Skagsnebb, Stygghø and the gap Dørålglupen, and towards Digerronden in the east. Interessting geological formations.
Continue along the Atna River under some high moraines, where you will pass the crossing to the route Dørålseter - Høgronden - Bjørnhollia. Cross the bridge over Atna and continue up to the three tourist cabins.
Time: Five hours
B) Via Langholet
This is a tougher tour than the tour via Rondhalsen. Follow the same route as described above util you reach the crossing under Svarthammaren. Continue past the foot of the mountain and past a trap. Enjoy the lovely view towards the east, Rondeslottet and Storronden.
Walk into the barren Kaldbekkbotn Valley, follow this valley and then walk up to the ridge of the mountain. On top of the ridge there is snow; this makes the walking difficult in the summer and dangerous in the winter. From the top you have a great view, especially towards Langholet, a valley with two lakes surrounded by the mountains Sagtinden in the west and Smedkinnin in the east.
The hike continues downwards (steep) through snow and rocks to the bottom, past two lakes and down through Langholskridu.
Down in the valley the trail follows the southern bank of the Atna River, past some moraines down to Bergedalsbekken. From there you follow the same trail as the route via Rondhalsen.
Time: Seven hours
Mysuseter - Bjørnhollia
Follow the road towards Rondvassbu Cabin to Indretjørn. From here you continue towards the west into the valley between Fremre Illmanhø and Veslehø. You will cross the Rørosvegen Trail.
The trail crosses Glitra and leads into Mjølrakkhaugan and the crossing of the trail to Eldåbu. A little rise and continue into Musvoldalen Valley and Illmanndalen Valley, then northwards to Benken, across the bridge over the small Illmannåi River and up to the Bjørnhollia Cabin.
Time: Six hours
