Getting to the Adventure Road and around

The Adventure Road comprises three of the travel routes between Oslo and Bergen.

Oslo - Sandvika - Gol - Geilo - Brimnes - Briravik - Granvin - Indre Arna - Bergen

Take the main road from Oslo towards the west following signs to Bergen. After barely 2 hours and 135 kilometres, you reach Hallingdal. Proceed over Hardangervidda to Hardangerfjord. Ferry between Brimnes - Buravik. There is a junction to rv. 52 at Gol and rv. 50 at Hagafoss in Hol.

Distance: 490 kilometres

Approximate travel time: 6 hours and 45 minutes

Oslo - Sandvika - Gol - Hol - Aurland - Voss - Bergen

Through high mountains and tunnels to Aurland beside the Sognefjord. From here take you take the E16 towards Bergen or Lærdal.

Approximate travel time: 6 hours and 45 minutes

Oslo - Sandvika - Gol - Borlaug - Lærdal - Aurland - Voss - Bergen

From Hemsedal you drive through the high mountains to Borlaug. From here, you follow the E16 beside the Lærdal River to the Sognefjord and further on to Bergen.

Other main roads

The Adventure Road is linked to the regions in the north, east and south via E16, E134, rv. 13, rv. 40, rv. 51, rv. 53 and rv. 55. Rv. 13 has junctions to rv. 7 at Granvin and to E16 at Voss. 

The scenic rv. 7 is the scenic national tourist route through Hardanger.

Good advice

Rv. 50 and rv. 52 have no ferry crossings. There are tunnels in the west and cyclists should be aware that bicycles are not allowed in some of them.

Alternative routes: Seltun - Lo (E16), Aurlandsvegen (fv. 243), Stalheimskleivi (E16) and Bruravik - Ulvik - Hvolven (rv. 572). These are pleasant alternatives for those travelling by car. 

Be prepared for snow at mountain passes from as early as October.

Public transport

Two train routes, several buses, passenger boats and car ferries facilitate your travel. Park the car for a day or more.
