In Valdres, you can be served everything from a five-course gourmet dinner in a fancy restaurant to traditional rømmegrøt (sour cream porridge) with cured meat and home-made flatbread at a summer farm or mountain lodge.

There is a large number of restaurants to choose from with both Norwegian and international food.

Gastronomy is extremely important in Valdres and it is part of the areas cultural heritage and tradition. The regional identity of locally produced food, such as cheese, honey, lamb and cured meats, is growing, and you will find many restaurants, cafés and shops in Valdres that sell local products. The traditional methods combined with a modern touch will give you a unique taste of Valdres.

Farm produce

Many farms produce and sell their own products and you can visit them at their location.

If you wish to try a traditional meal from Valdres, you should visit the farm Sørre Hemsing Gard in Vang. They serve cured meat, "rømmegrøt" (sour cream porridge), pancakes and waffles to their guests. The farm also has animals such as horses, goats, hens and sheep.
