Fagernes has two shopping centres and several shops along its main streets.

Opening hours for shops in the main streets:

  • Monday - Thursday 9 am - 5 pm
  • Fridays 9 am - 7 pm
  • Saturdays 9 am - 3 pm

Fagernes Kjøpesenter (Fagernes Shopping Centre)

Fagernes Kjøpesenter is located in the middle of Fagernes and it is easily accessible from the E16, or from the town centre.

Opening hours:

  • Monday - Friday 10 am - 8 pm
  • Saturdays 10 am - 6 pm

Valdres Storsenter (Valdres Shopping Centre)

Valdres Storsenter is located in Leira and it is very visible from the E16.
The shopping centre has 25 shops in all categories. You will also find many of Valdres' largest shops and warehouses in this area. 

Opening hours:

  • Monday - Friday 10 am - 8 pm
  • Saturdays 10 am - 6 pm

Gjensidigegården Shopping Centre

Gjensidigegården is located in Fagernes, along the right-hand side of the E16. The shopping centre has 14 stores in different categories.

Souvenirs

In Valdres, there are several places to find unique souvenirs, but the two main outlets are Beitostølen Souvenir & Brukskunst and Valdres Folk Museum.

In addition, many other shops and some hotels throughout Valdres have a selection of souvenirs. Typical Valdres souvenirs are wooden carvings, handmade silver jewellery, handwoven products such as the unique Christian carpet (visit Marit Anny's Vevstogo in Lomen), ceramics, leather and furs. Your will also find the "typical" Norwegian souvenirs such as the popular elk and trolls.  

Art

There are many well-known artists in Valdres and they get their inspiration and motivation from the valleys beautiful surroundings. Most of them have their own galleries that are open for the public during the summer.

You can also visit Galleri Perrongen in Fagernes where many local artists are represented. This is an art, glass and jewellery exhibition.

Beitohallen Kunstgalleri, located at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Beitostølen, is 700 square metres of figurative art. This is the largest of its kind in Norway and both local and national artists are represented.

Jewellery

Valdres is well-known for its unique jewellery made from gold, silver, wood and leather. Visit Valdres Sølvsmie & Keramikk (silversmith and ceramics), Hovda Sylv & Tre (silver and woodwork) in Dale, Eli’s Tre & Skinnatelier (wood and leather) in Etnedal and Galleri Oxen in Fagernes. Valdres also has its own jewellery collection with the unique Valdres symbol.

Fashion

Valdres' local traditional costumes (or "bunad") are probably what people associate with Valdres. You should visit Husfliden or Valdres Folk Museum if you want to learn more about this traditional attire. But Valdres has much more when it comes to fashion. At Karianne Design and Hot Nok (open during the summer season) you will find unique and creative clothing. There are also other stores with international fashion for young and old.

Farm produce

Many farms produce and sell their own products and you can visit them at their location.

Valdres is famous all over Norway for its rakfisk - salted and fermented trout. There is even a Rakfisk Festival every November.

Sausages, cheeses, different types of cured meat, locally brewed beer, jam, honey, tea and assorted bakery products can be bought at the following shops:
