Aquavit is a potato-based spirit flavoured with herbs such as caraway seeds, anise, dill, fennel and coriander. The preferred accompaniment to Christmas food.
The UNESCO protected mining town of Røros

Jutulhogget Canyon
A visit to Jutulhogget in Østerdalen, one of Northern Europe's largest canyons, is a nature experience not to be missed. Allow a few hours to explore the canyon or walk along the edge of the cliff.
The Viking Ship Olympic Arena
This is an indoor speed skating facility at Hamar. It opened in 1993, originally built for the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics.
Rondane National Tourist Route
By the foot of the majestic blue mountains in Rondane National Park, runs a beautiful and tranquil valley. A peaceful drive along the valley and Rondane National Tourist Route (rv. 27) between Enden and Folldal is an excellent alternative to the main routes through Gudbrandsdalen and Østerdalen. In-between the towering mountains, Rondane can offer wilderness, as well as vast plains and idyllic valleys.
Mjøstråkk Cycle Route
This is the name of the 250-kilometre-long cycle route around Mjøsa, Norway’s largest lake. Hamar, Lillehammer and Gjøvik are all towns situated beside Mjøsa. The cycle route is well-signposted, and the roads are a combination of gravel and tarmac.
A range of interesting sights and tourist attractions are available around Mjøsa, and these are all marked and described on maps. Bicycle maps for Mjøstråkk can be bought at the tourist offices.
