In Villmarksriket Hedmark you will find 22 different species of freshwater fish, with trout, common whitefish, pike, arctic char, perch and grayling as the most popular.
The region holds several of the Norwegian national records for the most important freshwater species.

In general, all fishing for trout stops on 15 September, but fishing other species continues. Baglimit and size regulations vary from place to place.
Some zones are managed with maximum size regulations, which means that the average size is bigger, and good, sustainable fishing on wild fish. You will find these zones in the Trysil River at Gjerfloen, the Rena River, Kvennan (the Glomma River) and the Femund River.
You can buy fishing licenses at gas stations, tackle shops and camp sites nearby the water. In Engerdal they have one license that covers most of the 800 waters.
In the Åmot/Rena area, you can get your license by sending an sms from your mobile phone, just follow instructions on signs by the river. This license also covers most of the Åmot area.Most of the fishing in the Hedmark region is cheap, a typical day ticket cost 8 Euro, and a license for the intire season costs 30 Euro. You can also get week-, and weekend tickets.
