You have the choice between exclusive restaurants with an international menu, a variety of small cafeterias with delightful dishes, coffee bars, pizzerias, snack-bars and pubs.
Some restaurants have both Norwegian and international dishes on the menu, with ingredients taken from nature's own larder. The restaurants Sjøbua, XL and Maki are famous for their various fish dishes, and many of the hotels serve tasteful lunch or dinner courses. The shopping centres Kremmergaarden and AMFI Moa can offer a wide choice of pizza bars, snack bars and coffee bars. Or, you can simply buy prawns from one of the fishing boats at the quay, and sit on a bench and enjoy them whilst admiring the sea view.
Ålesund is also home to the annual Norwegian Food Festival with its bustling crowds and enthusiasm for food.
You can also allow yourself to be surprised by the culinary experiences and long pleasant evenings on offer in lovely rural towns such as Ulsteinvik, Fosnavåg or Volda, and roadside locations in the Sunnmøre district. You might well find your favourite restaurant there.
