Fruit

For many of Hardanger’s visitors it is the fruit blossom in spring that is the prime attraction, whereas other travellers visit the fruit farms as they are abound with cherries, apples, pears and plums. Visit one of the fruit farms in the villages of Lofthus and Ulvik, and you and your family can enjoy national romanticism from the very best seats. The numerous picturesque little villages where fruit farming is the main livelihood have energized and inspired creative souls for hundreds of years.

The Hardangerfjord

Experience the Hardangerfjord by boat, ferry, yacht, sailboat or a small fishing boat. Moor up at some of the numerous enchanting villages. Or feel the excitement of passing through the narrow strait of Fyksesundet before you arrive at Botnen, the birthplace of the Hardanger fiddle - a traditional stringed instrument.

Hardangervidda

The vast mountain plateau of Hardangervidda is one of Europe's largest. Here there is an abundance of well-marked routes for walking, hiking, cycling and cross-country skiing.

Waterfalls

The Hardanger area has many great waterfalls worth seeing, for example Låtefossen, Steinsdalsfossen and Vøringfossen waterfalls.

Glaciers

Folgefonna Glacier is the third largest glacier on mainland Norway. Glacier climbing is a popular activity here. The glacier also hosts Folgefonna Summer Ski Centre where you can go cross-country skiing, alpine skiing or try tricks and jumps at the centre’s terrain park. From the slopes you have a magnificent view over fjords and mountains.

Hardangerjøkulen is the seventh largest glacier in Norway. The glacier provides magnificient views over the surrounding landscape, including Hardangervidda.

Guarantee your safety by using authorised guides, and never venture out onto or near a glacier on your own. Remember to bring warm clothing, headwear, suitable footwear, gloves and sunglasses.
