Scenic and exciting roads
In addition to the Atlantic Road you can choose among these routes:

Rv. 680 – a fairy-tale road along the coast
This road from Trondheim to Kristiansund via Kyrksæterøra, Aure and Tustna can safely be described as "the Atlantic Road extension". The road passes over nine big and small bridges and is worth the drive.

Aure and Tustna's coastal landscape is rich in skerries, bewitching mountains and good fishing spots. The unique Tustnastabbene Mountains have many trails which offer magnificent views.

There are several places to stay, marinas and restaurants en route. The road is particularly well-suited for cyclists. Why not take a ferry out to the prairie flat island of Smøla when you are first on rv. 680?

Distance Trondheim – Kristiansund via rv. 680: Approximately 207 kilometres (ferry between Seivika and Tømmervåg, frequent departures)

The E39 – Inland Nordmøre's fertile landscape
You will enjoy the road between Orkanger/Trondheim and Kristiansund with its great variety of scenery – typical of Nordmøre. The road zigzags along the coast past fjord and fertile meadows, and there are wild animals such as red deer in the area. Friendly hosts offer accommodation, food and activities. The Geitbåten (a traditional wooden boat) is a proud bearer of tradition.

Distance Trondheim – Kristiansund via E39: Approximately 195 kilometres (ferry between Halsa and Kansestraum)

The rv. 65 – The Trollheimen Mountains
This route takes you through the beautiful and mighty Trollheimen Mountain Range and an area with strong forestry and logging traditions. Fantastic area for walks with many waymarked and friendly paths. You can breathe some of the cleanest air in Europe in Todalen and admire the fantastic Svinviks Arboretum.

The Surna River, one of Norway's best salmon rivers, runs through Rindal and Surnadal. Fishing permits are easily available from for example the local tourist information offices, and both beginners and experienced fishermen are welcome.

There are several cosy camp sites, cabins and hotels along the way.

Distance Trondheim – Kristiansund via rv. 65: Approximately 216 kilometres  (ferry between Halsa and Kansestraum)
