Visit a museum

At Stiklestad National Cultural Centre you will find an outdoor museum with exhibitions and guided tours during the summer. The St. Olav Drama is a play depicting the battle at Stiklestad where St. Olav engaged the king’s army in the year 1030. This became a turning point in Norwegian history and is considered the point at which Christianity first took a solid foothold in Norway.

Egge Museum is an open air museum, which includes a distinctive nineteenth century square farm-yard featuring buildings originating from farms in the area.

The museum also covers newer history of agriculture and an old street from the town of Steinkjer.

Newer history from World War II is presented at Falstadsenteret in Levanger.

Water activities

There are a number of companies offering canoe rental and both fresh- and saltwater fishing in local lakes and fjords. Try the Verdal River for salmon fishing.

The Hopla water system in Levanger and 60 lakes in Steinkjer are easy to reach and very excellent areas for fishing.

Most of the fishing spots also offer some form of overnight accommodation, such as Skarnsundet Fjord Centre. Here you also can rent kayaks. You can rent a canoe at Føllingstua Camping and Brandheia Villmark & Velvære.

The only swimming baths open to the public, Dampsaga Bad, is located in Steinkjer along the E6.

Cycling

Bikng is a great way of getting around Innherred. You can hire a bike at the tourist information in Steinkjer.

Walking

Norway’s geographical centre point is situated near the gateway to the Blåfjella-Skjækerfjella National Park.

The Egge area in Steinkjer is a unique area, rich in historical sites and other cultural findings. It is also a great area for shorter walks and you get a good view over the Trondheimfjord and the town of Steinkjer.

There are nice walking trails in and around Levanger town centre.

Try a guided caving tour in Ogndalen.

Anyone wishing to ascend to loftier heights without going on a mountain hike will find that Innherred has a lot to offer visitors. A popular spot is Oftenåsen Hill in Steinkjer, Hårskallen in Levanger and Tittinghalla in Inderøy.

Play golf

Golf enthusiasts will find courses both in Verdal and Steinkjer. In Steinkjer you can play on a 9-hole course. At Stiklestad Golf Club in Verdal, you play on an 18-hole course and relax in a new club house.

Go-carting

There is an outdoor go-cart track just 12 kilometres from Steinkjer town centre. Follow the rv. 763 in the direction of Ogndalen.

Bowling

You can go bowling in both Steinkjer and Levanger.
