Ride a snowmobile to Norway’s geographic centre at Ogndalsfjellet.
An excellent spot for ice fishing is in the Hopplavassdraget river system at Åsen in the municipality of Levanger. Aspåsen Cabin and Boat Rental (phone +47 74 09 97 46) offers overnight accommodation and helps with your fishing needs.
Steinkjer boasts one of the country’s finest cross-country skiing facilities. At Byafjellet, which is closest to the city centre, you can ski to the ski hut (make sure you check the opening times first at the tourist information).
Overnight accommodation is available at Mokk where you will also find nice terrain for cross-country skiing thanks partly to prepared trails leading into the mountains towards Lake Mokkavatnet and Lake Andorvatnet.
There are also nice areas for cross-country skiing in Verdal as you approach the Swedish border and near Levanger in the east. Frolfjellet is a popular outdoor recreation area in Levanger. From Levanger in to Skalstuggu Cabin it is 20 kilometres.
There are also facilities for biathlon and ski jumping at Steinkjer, as well as in Sprova along the road rv. 17.
