Summer

Long, bright days and nights are perfect if you like hiking in the mountains and forests. Why not hike from cabin to cabin on marked trails under the auspices of Harstad Turlag (the local hiking association)? 10 på Top is a series of 10 selected summit ascents of varying degrees of difficulty. For more information, please contact Harstad Tourist Information Office.

Combine cycling and ferries to discover the fantastic island kingdom in the archipelago. Ferries and express boats will take you to the islands of Bjarkøy and Krøttøy.

You are welcome to join organised fishing trips or to play golf at Røkenes Farm. Røkenes Farm is an old trading post and guesthouse dating back to the sixteenth century. The grounds also boasts a nine-hole golf course.

Winter

From mid-November to mid-January, the sun is below the horizon and you experience the polar nights. A fantastic polar light illuminates the sky, sea and mountains. Experience freezing cold, snow and magnificent view of the northern lights at Valhall. This is an experience that will provide life-long memories.

It is recommended you take a round trip with the local boat MS Vågsfjord to the island kingdom, try cross-country skiing on the floodlit trails or hit the slopes at the alpine ski centre out of town. How about a swim and sauna at the fantastic indoor water park Grottebadet which is built in the mountain under the city?

Harstad can also offer a rich cultural life and a beautiful cultural centre/theatre offering national and international cultural performances year-round. Hotels offer the Harstad Package, which comprises dinner, tickets to a performance at Harstad Kulturhus and accommodation.
