Getting to Narvik and around

Situated in the stunning Ofoten Region, Narvik is easily accessible by car, boat, air and train. Its close proximity to Sweden is an added advantage.

By plane

Daily departures/arrivals between Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes and Oslo Airport Gardermoen. You can fly with SAS or Norwegian. Flight time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

You can also catch a flight from Stockholm to Kiruna in Northern Sweden. From here you can either catch a train or a bus to Narvik.

Narvik Airport is a small domestic airport close to Narvik town centre. From here there are three daily flights with Widerøe to Bodø and one to Tromsø. Flight time approximately fourty minutes.

By bus

Travel by bus from most destinations in Norway with Nor-Way Bussekspress and from Kiruna in Northern Sweden to Narvik with Länstrafiken.

By boat

Hurtigruten (The Norwegian Coastal Voyage) cruises the stunning Norwegian coastline and makes several stops on the journey, from some of which you can easily travel onwards to Narvik by bus. As an example you can travel with Hurtigruten to Svolvær in Lofoten from there you can travel by express buss to Narvik which takes about 3 hours and 30 minutes. Hurtigruten also docks in Harstad and Tromsø where there are regular buses to Narvik.

By train

If you are a lover of trains there are two ways of getting to Narvik.

There are two daily departures from Oslo to Fauske with the Norwegian State Railways (NSB). In Fauske you change to a bus for the last leg of the journey to Narvik.

Alternatively you can take the train directly to/from Narvik via Sweden with Statens Järnvägar (SJ) are daily departures and the journey time from Narvik to Boden is about 5 hours and from Boden to Stockholm or Gothenburg 17 hours.

Once in Narvik, if you just want to take the train to Kiruna for the day it takes 2 hours and 30 minutes. The first part of the journey along the Ofotfjord is spectacular.

By taxi

Narvik Taxi has a taxi station in the town centre and it is possible to request a minibus if required. There are also taxis at Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes.

Hire a car

It is a good idea to book your car before your arrival. It is also possible to rent mobile homes as well.
