A cruise on the fjord on a winter day is lovely. The trip out to the island of Jomfruland and back is the best of all. You can sit on the sun deck with a warm blanket around you and see the beauty of islands and skerries in winter dresses. You can also observe marine life on the fjord from the comfortable upper deck lounge.

Walking is another winter activity. There are a few lookout points in walking distance from the centre of town. Steinmann is located almost in the middle of town. From there you can study the town's houses or you can let your eyes rest on islets and skerries. Take a trip to Steinmann on a clear January morning, and you might experience a fantastic sunrise. Storkollen and Sjåen are located west of the town centre. From Storkollen and Sjåen you can take longer walks following marked trails. At the top of Storkollen there are tables and benches for having a break.

When the Skagerrak flexes its muscles, you may try sea rafting outside Jomfruland. Besides, fishing in the winter is a great experience.
