The Saboteur Trail
The Saboteur Trail is the route the world famous Norwegian Resistance used during World War II to get from the mountain plateau of Hardangervidda and down the steep gorge to Vemork to blow up the heavy water factory. The trail is eight kilometres long, well-marked and starts off from Rjukan Fjellstue. There are boards along the way that tell the story. Guided tours along the Saboteur Trail are available during the summer. The trip takes approximately two to three hours.
Gaustatoppen Mountain
Gaustatoppen towers majestically above the town of Rjukan at an altitude of 1,883 metres above sea level. Around 30,000 people make the trip up to the summit every year to enjoy the fantastic view from the top. On a clear day, you can see all the way south to the coast, and east to Sweden. You can see one sixth of Norway from here.

Biking on Hardangervidda
Cycling on the mountain plateau of Hardangervidda brings you into beautiful high mountain nature. The beginning of the cycling tour is very special, because the first Northern European cable car whisks you up from Rjukan to the starting point at 886 meters above sea level.
The route is well signposted and well maintained. After 30 kilometres you will arrive at the Kalhovd Tourist Cabin, where you can have dinner and stay for the night. From Kalhovs you have different choices: Either you continue to Mårbu Tourist Cabin, you return back to Rjukan, or you continue to Atrå.
Canoeing
One guided alternative starts from Selstali alpine pasture farm and follows the beautiful Gausdalen Valley. Paddling along there gives you plenty of time to enjoy the surroundings. From the canoe you get really close to both wildlife and nature. Food and coffee are prepared over a camp fire. The trip can be combined with a canoe paddling course and overight stays.
