Winter along the southern coast is somewhat warmer than the rest of the country. The snow might come in December or January, and whether it stays for a while or melts away, and then comes back again, varies from year to year.

Hiking and skiing

The hiking areas are well-used all year long, and the locals go skiing in the very same trails when the snow arrives.

There are lighted ski runs and trails several places. Contact the local tourist offices for ideas about where to go. In addition, there is a skiing centre at Vegårshei.

Nes Verk has great areas that can be used for outdoor activities, even in winter.

Ice skating

Arendal has a skating rink with artificial ice, and it is open from November to March. Amateurs and professionals can enjoy well-prepared ice every day during this period.

In addition to these winter activities, there is a rich culture life all year, and many museums and galleries are open all year long for both tourists and locals.
