Cars may be rented in every town and larger built-up area as well as at every airport in Norway. Almost all models and types can be rented.
You can book your car with a car hire company either online, in person at their offices or through a travel agent. We strongly recommend you to book in advance, especially during the summer season.
What documents do I need?
You will need to have a full, valid licence issued in your country of residence and held for at least a year. If your licence is not issued by an EC/ECA country, an International Driver's Permit (IDP) may be required.
Regulations
The minimum car hire age is 19, but car hire companies may stipulate individual limits up to 25 years, depending on the category of the car you want to hire. If you are younger than 25, most companies will require you to pay a young driver's fee of approximately NOK 100 a day (varies from car hire company to car hire company).
Car hire cost
Approximate car hire charge for seven days:
Small car: NOK 2,800
Medium-sized car: NOK 3,000
Large car: NOK 3,700
The hire company may also provide extras such as child car seats and storage racks, which will cost extra.
You should not drive a car without insurance, so check whether this is included in the final cost or if you need to buy it separately.
Payment
Most car hire companies only take credit or debit cards as payment.
