Hemsedal
One of Norway’s largest ski areas and considered by many the best. Hemsedal is versatile with 22 lifts, 48 slopes and activities for all ages.
Narvik
Way above the Arctic Circle you find this ski resort. Due to winter darkness, the best time to go skiing is from March to June. Narvik has one of the most vertical runs in Norway with breathtaking views of the Ofotfjord.
Kvitfjell
This relatively small ski resort just north of Lillehammer, features the magnificent Olympic Downhill Run used for the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics. By the way, the last pitch of the run is much steeper than what appears on TV. You will also find a large children’s area at Kvitfjell.
Oppdal
For advanced skiers, the Hovden run features three very steep pitches with long, flat outruns thorough farmers’ fields. There are of course kinder runs that let you down gently from the top. Oppdal lies about 130 kilometres south of Trondheim.
Voss
Top skiing area when the weather cooperates. Voss lies approximately 100 kilometres northeast of Bergen.
Norefjell
Good vertical runs and only 100 kilometres from Oslo, make this a popular ski centre. Norefjell was the site for the alpine skiing events during the 1952 Oslo Olympics.
Strandafjellet
In the middle of the mighty Sunnmøre Alps you will find this exciting ski centre and former site of the Women’s World Cup. If you do not mind riding surface lifts, this area is a gem. Two different lifts bring you to the top of Roaldshornet (1,230 metres above sea level) where you have great views of fjords and mountains.
Trysil
Norway’s largest ski resort – 32 lifts and over 70 kilometres of runs connecting three sides of the mountain into a varied alpine facility. Trysil is popular with families, as it has a good ski school.
Hafjell
As the site for the giant slalom and slalom events during the 1994 Lillehammer Olympics, Hafjell offers cool skiing. Take the gondola to the top and choose between many long cruisers. Lasse Kjus, the now retired ski racer, has a ski school as well as his own cabin here. Try the Kjus Run which offers fun skiing, both for amateurs and professionals.
Geilo
Four interconnected areas make up one of Norway’s oldest ski resorts. Here you have several choices of elegant lodgings. Take the Vestlia Express lift and ski the Asla Run for a nice cruiser in Geilo.
