Wildlife Sea Safari

A unique experience of nature in a high speed RIB boat! Sea rafting is a thrilling activity and a beautiful experience. The most popular trip goes to the bird sanctuary island Runde, where approximately half a million birds of about 40 different species can be found during spring and early summer. On the trip you may also observe sea eagles or visit a seal colony.

Fishing trips

Enjoy an exciting fishing trip by boat in the fjord area, or deep-sea fishing just outside Ålesund. The catch can include species such as cod, pollack, haddock and saithe. On some occasions you can even catch the ugly, but very tasty monkfish. Finish off with a chef preparing a sumptuous meal of your very own catch. Fishing is an all year around activity, with autumn being the season for crab fishing.

Scuba diving

Ålesund has lots to offer scuba diving enthusiasts and its merits include hosting the World Championships in underwater photography. Well-established scuba diving operators organise exciting and varied diving trips. All necessary equipment is available.

Deep-Sea Rafting

Deep-sea rafting along the Atlantic coastline is an extraordinary experience. Just outside Ålesund, a string of picturesque small islands and fishing communities lie facing the Atlantic Ocean. The salty tang of the ocean and fresh sea air are balm for body and soul.

An island for yourself! – Svinøy Lighthouse

The island of Svinøy is one of the most distinctive and unusual locations in the world, with access only by helicopter. Its rugged beauty and solitude will appeal to those looking to stay somewhere really remote. The island is the ideal retreat to help focus the mind and get away from it all yet still be close to the attractive town of Ålesund. The lighthouse sleeps 11 people.

Kayaking

Ålesund is surrounded by water and with a picturesque canal in the middle of the town is the perfect setting for kayaking or paddling. The coast with small islands and fishing communities and the dramatic and cultural landscape of the fjords are also fantastic to explore from the water.

Alnes Lighthouse

Visit the picturesque Alnes Lighthouse facing out on to the Atlantic Ocean and explore the saga island of Giske, birthplace of the Viking chieftain Rollo.

Fjord sightseeing

Combine a fjord sightseeing tour with a factory outlet visit at Devold. Devold of Norway is one of the country’s oldest knitwear companies. The factory also features a museum where you can experience 150 years of Norwegian knitwear history.
