Excursions to the main Olav’s Mine can be arranged. The Røros Church built by the copper company back in 1780 is still the dominating landmark of the town. Røros is easily accessible with a 50 minutes flight from Oslo. We can generally guarantee snow at this destination from the end of November. The fact that the destination is located below the artic circle is also an important plus – we can carry out winter activities in day light the winter throughout. An excellent winter destination where we can offer many of our winter activities, such as dog sledging, snow scooters as well as a selection of cultural activities.
From the 2nd to the last weekend in February there is the Røros Winter Festival and up to 40.000 from the surrounding districts come to town as this is THE local trade fair of the highlands. The narrow streets of Røros are lined with local street vendors selling everything from the finest handicrafts to smoked sausage and leather goods. With the folklore activities, singing, dancing and music it is a 24-hour festival!
The Sami people do not only live in the north of Norway. The Røros area is where the southern sami people has lived long before copper mines started up, so our programme can also include a visit to a Sami camp where you can encounter this special culture and learn more about their history and way of life, taste local food and maybe even take part in a reindeer race ! Røros is an undiscovered pearl!
