Day 1 - Arrival and accommodation
Flight to Røros. There are two flights from Oslo to Røros Airport per day, operated by Dot Airways.
Arrival in Røros. If the weather allows, we can use horses and sledges for the transfer to the hotel; the luggage will be transported separately by bus.

Røros Hotel
Røros Hotel is situated 10 minute's walk from Røros center with a beautiful view over the region. It has in total 167 large and spacious rooms, held in the colours of the mountains. All rooms are non-smoking and have private facilities, cable TV, telephone and mini bar. The fitness department has a swimming pool and sauna. Røros Hotel offers several restaurants and bars as well as a night club for its guests. The hotel was completely renovated this winter.
At Røros Hotel, they like to preserve the region’s wonderful food traditions, at the same time demonstrating that local produce and traditional food can be successfully combined with modern culinary craft. Our talented chefs of international calibre provide unique food experiences and our kitchen takes great pride in meeting all challenges head on. Our own Røros water is served at every meal – clean, fresh mountain water drawn here in the house.
Vertshuset Røros
Vertshuset Røros is located in the centre of the World Heritage town of Røros. The house has a long and dramatic history stretching back to the 17th century. The building was previously both a shop and a bank, but was originally built, like everything else in Røros, with the idea that it must serve two purposes: mining and agriculture.
Vertshuset offers accommodation in its cosy back yard. There are 17 double rooms with wireless internet, TV and telephone and bathroom. In addition there are also 6 apartments with two rooms.
Verthuset main building was converted into a restaurant and bar in the year of 1967. In the past couple of years it has been renovated in traditional Røros style in consultation with the Norwegian Directorate of Cultural Heritage. They take great pride in the cuisine, using local, high-quality ingredients to create gourmet meals that combine the best of modernity and tradition.

Day 2 - Dog sledging
Husky tour
Upon arrival at the dog kennel, you will be met by Ketil Reitan, one of the world’s best mushers in dog racing. He is the only one who has participated in the five longest dog races in the world. He was also the leading musher on the Norwegian team for the BBC-series “Blizzard – Race to the Pole” in 2009.
Ketil Reitan has been running a dog kennel for many years, and is one of the most respected names within the sport. He will greet us and give the group an insight in the dog's psychology before we start the dog sledging activity.
You will receive instructions in harnessing the dogs, and help out with this, before you are ready to try this exciting experience! There will be a professional dog sledge guide going first, followed by the participants. One person is driving the sledge and one person is sitting on the sledge before you swap about half-way. The sleds in use are sturdy and solid - safety is a priority at all times.
When you get back to the kennel after your adventurous tour with the dogs, you will enter the heated lavvu-tent for a delightful lunch, which is especially prepared by chefs from the hotel! A lavvu is a circular tent with an open fireplace in the middle - a very special and original way to have lunch.
Other activities such as lasso-throwing on the wooden reindeer, air-rifle shooting and snow-shoe walking can be arranged. For more information, you can visit Alaskan Husky Tours.
Activity Suggestions for the afternoon
City tour of Røros
Two local guides will pick the group up at the hotel for a little tour of the charming city centre of Røros. This will lead through the main street combined with some information on the interesting history of the town. The entire town including the slagheap is protected on the UNESCO list of cultural heritage. The centre with its small, wooden houses, many dating back to the 17th century, is very pretty and special. The tour will end at "Bergstadens Ziir" which means the adoration of the town. The proud church dates back to 1780 and is well worth a visit.
A concert on the church's baroque organ can be arranged.
To make the tour a bit more special, we can hire around 20 chair sledges. The chair sledge is a Norwegian invention, which is a very good means of transportation on winter roads. The “sparkstøtte” is a wooden chair welded on two metal runners - one sits on the chair and the other kicks off - great fun and easy to master.

Day 3 - Sami adventure
Even before the mining operation was established in 1644, the Røros plateau’s Sami population was practicing domesticated reindeer husbandry in these parts. Today, many Samis continue to practice reindeer husbandry and spend a large part of the year with the reindeer. We will give you the opportunity to experience the Sami culture and history and also give you a glimpse of reindeer husbandry in earlier times and today’s modern operation. After your encounter with the Sami culture a traditional Sami lunch will be served in the heated lavvu. Maybe your hosts will even joik for you!

Afternoon program
In the afternoon, return to Røros for a typical Norwegian activity: kick-sledding-race! All guests get their sled where they stand behind and off they go through the centre.
We end up in one of Røros cosy cafes for enjoying a hot chocolate and celebrating the winner!
For dinner, there will be a four-course gala dinner waiting for the group in a nice room of the Røros hotel.
Day 4 - Olavsgruva Copper Mine
A visit to the Olavsgruva is a stroll through 300 years of history. The mine closed down in 1977, but we can still visit it. We will go 50 metres down and then 500 m into the mountain to an area where the temperature is around 5 degrees Celsius all year round and the humidity is very high. Be sure to take warm clothes and sturdy footwear. The tour is full of atmosphere with special light and sound effects, recreating the atmosphere of miners at work.
For groups, Bergmannshallen, the mountains own concert hall, can be used for a concert or other entertainment under the agreement. It is also possible to serve an aperitif in the mine.
Lunch at Kaffestuggu Restaurant
Kaffestuggu or “Stuggu” - as it's called by the locals - is the most traditional restaurant in the old town of Røros. You can feel the atmosphere from the old mining community. The inhabitants have brought their coffee traditions into the modern era and "Stuggu" is the natural meeting place at the centre of Røros. Kaffestuggu offers a variety of environments in a house filled with traditions. There are eight different rooms and outdoor restaurant during summer give you as a customer varied opportunities. If you only want a cup of coffee in traditional areas, or a cultural experience, Kaffestuggu is the place.
Transfer to the airport and departure to Oslo.
Pricing information
Rate for the above stated program include all activities, transfers and meals, overnight in single rooms at Røros Hotel from 6.900 NOK per person.
Flight from Oslo to Røros and return costs about 1.400 NOK per person.
The rates are based on a group of 15-20 persons and are subject to change. Meal rates do not include beverages. A 10% handling fee on beverages is charged, if payment is not made directly at restaurant.
