Have dinner at one of the town's restaurants. Bacalao (salted cod) and various seafood dishes are very popular on local menus.
The restaurant Fjellstua, dating from 1903, has got the best view in Ålesund, situated as it is right on top of the town's mountain Aksla. At Fjellstua you can enjoy anything from light snacks to gourmet food and the restaurant has got large conference rooms and a dining room for rent. Reception rooms have capacity for 340 delegates. After a delightful dinner you may wish to burn off a few calories and walk down the 418 steps to the town park and return to the hotel or enjoy the nightlife in town. Fjellstua is the oldest dining place in Ålesund.
Ålesund Aquarium is one of the largest in Northern Europe. Built into the coastal landscape and facing the mighty ocean, Atlanterhavsparken provides a fascinating insight into the multitude of life beneath the waves. Imagine a formal dinner here with the large aquarium tanks as a magnificent backdrop, surrounded by a natural rock formation.
The aquarium is a unique dinner and gathering venue for groups from 20 to 1,000 delegates.
Teaterfabrikken was originally a cod liver oil factory built in 1904. Today it is a small theatre/concert/pub with a focus on entertainment. The restaurant is in two sections, with the largest room able to serve 250 delegates.
Located at the end of the Hjørundfjord, surrounded by magnificent mountains and a breathtaking fjord landscape, you will find a little piece of paradise, Hotel Union Øye. In 1989 the historic hotel was completely restored to its original condition from 1891 and now presents all the splendour of its heyday. Enjoy its 27 rooms and period lounges including a wonderful dining room for 80 guests.
The Art Nouveau Centre (Jugendstilsenteret) in Ålesund documents the town's unique architectural history with the establishment of Art Nouveau style buildings following the great town fire of 1904.
Experience the fascinating and exciting history presented to you through a time machine and multimedia show that portrays the town before and after the fire. Take a stroll through the many rooms in the listed building known as 'The Swan Pharmacy' and be mesmerised by the beautiful and authentic décor. The Art Nouveau Centre can cater for receptions of up to 30 delegates.
Maud of Ålesund is an old fishing cutter from 1917. You can join the boat for a trip to the idyllic Kjeholmen, a 15 minute boat ride from Ålesund harbour. A table can be set for up to 40 delegates and you can be served food and drinks. Read more about Maud of Ålesund (pdf file).
