Description

Sandtorgholmen is one of the oldest and has been one of the richest trading north of Trondheim, with roots dating back to 1300's.

Sandtorgholmen was the first who got a license for the sale of wine and spirits in this region, in the year 1770. We are also fortunate that we have the wine cellar from this period, now restored as a wine bar with 30 seats.

From Sandtorgholmen was among other things wine delivered to seven parishes. They also had their own bakery on the island, so the "communion wafers" was baked for the same parishes.

Sandtorgholmen is located in Tjeldsundet, where there are strong currents and rugged waters. Stream runs over seven knots at the strongest, so Sandtorgholmen was a natural stopping point to wait until power turned.
