Description

Experience the exceptional counter-tenor Andreas Scholl’s personal interpretations of the romantic German song repertoire. Accompanied by his wife, Tamar Halperin, he will present us with beautiful lieder from his latest recording.

– My voice is an instrument which I use to paint with, using sounds and vocal colours. I’m always trying to serve the music, to serve the story-telling, says Andreas Scholl, who is well-known for his special ability to arouse the enthusiasm of both audiences and critics.

In his most recent recording, Wanderer, he has delved into the German lieder tradition with songs by Mozart, Haydn, Schubert and Brahms. This is a repertoire he knows well from his childhood and the mixed choir his father conducted.

– Some of the Brahms songs on the record I sang as a child, in a simpler arrangement for choir. I knew the songs and the melodies and it was nice to come back to them after so many years.

The award-winning singer and his pianist, Tamar Halperin, are in high demand at all the major concert venues in Europe and North America, but also wanted to return to Bergen. During his last visit, to the 2011 Bergen International Festival, Andreas Scholl captivated the audience with his expressive performance and gave the full house a number of encores.

“His unique, rich, clear voice had all the power and dynamic range one could wish for. The magnificent medieaval Håkonshallen was an ideal setting”, wrote one reviewer at the website Bachtrack.
