Description

Hornindalsvatn Lake is Europe´s deepest lake, 514 metres deep. None of the glacier streams run out into the lake and this has resulted in Europe´s clearest lake. The lake had a ferry service from 1880, to and from road less areas along the north side of the lake.

Around the valley of Nordfjord there are many other large and small lakes. The largest and most well-known are Lovatnet, Oldevatnet, Strynevatnet Sandalsvatnet and Breimsvatnet.
