Kjerag

Kjerag - the majestic mountain peak rises 1000 m above the Lysefjorden.

The mountainside that swoops vertically to the fjord below is an impressive sight from the deck of a boat. Understandably, Kjerag is a seductress of mountain climbers and basehoppers alike during the summer time. There is a marked trail from Øygardstøl, 4-6 hours return trip, through physically demanding terrain.
Take the Stavanger-Lysebotn ferry before driving up the hairpin bends to the parking area at Øygardstøl (parking fee). Alternatively, drive from Stavanger towards Ålgård on E39, follow trunk road Rv45 through Hunnedal and Sirdal and signposted from Sirdal to Lysebotn (152 km).

In the high season in summer (end of June to end of August) it is possible to travel by bus from Stavanger and from Sandnes , through Hunnedal and Sirdal to Øygardstøl where the hike to Kjerag starts. The hike lasts for 6 hours (up and down), and is a quite demanding hike. The return is also by bus back to Sandnes and Stavanger. Duration: 13,5 hours. Please remember hiking boots, proper clothes, packed lunch and water to drink! The hiking trail is demanding and only recommended to adult, experienced hikers. The hike to Kjerag is only possible in the summer! Season from the end of May to the middle of September.
