The county embraces 18 municipalities divided into four regions: Moss, Lower Glomma, Indre Østfold and Halden. The full length of Østfold´s eastern border is shared with Sweden.
There are six towns in Østfold. Moss and Askim are closest to Oslo in the north, then Mysen a little further east, Fredrikstad and Sarpsborg mid-county and Halden down by the Swedish border.
It is easy to get to Østfold. The two main roads from Sweden, E6 and E18, go through Østfold. The county has good rail connections to both Oslo and Gothenburg. You can also fly to Østfold, to the new Moss Airport Rygge.
