The Bøla Reindeer is one of Europe's best known rock carvings, and it has become the classic example of a hunting carving from the Stone Age. There are also figures of a bear and an elk in the same area.
In recent years, a human form has been uncovered - The Bøla Man. Remarkably enough, he is equipped with a pair of skis.
You will find the rock carvings at Bardal along the road rv. 285, 15 kilometres from the centre of Steinkjer.
Here you will find an outdoor museum with exhibitions and guided tours during the summer. The St. Olav Drama is a play depicting the battle at Stiklestad where St. Olav engaged the king’s army in the year 1030. This became a turning point in Norwegian history and is considered the point at which Christianity first took a solid foothold in Norway. Explore all this at The Stiklestad National Cultural Centre.
Egge Museum is an open-air museum, which includes a distinctive 19th-century square farmyard featuring buildings originating from farms in the area.
The museum also covers newer history of agriculture and an old street from the town of Steinkjer.
Newer history from World War II is presented at Falstadsenteret in Levanger.
