Most trails are old hiking and cattle paths and they make it easy to reach the beautiful mountains. Here are some suggestions for nice hikes in Ål.
Around Bergsjø
- High mountain terrain, mostly flat and easy
- 1,070 - 1,190 metres above sea level
- Distance: 8 kilometres
- Time: 2 - 3 hours
Start the hike at Bergsjøstølen or Bergsjø. Follow the marked path around Lake Bergsjø. This is a nice walk in easy hiking terrain. You are recommended to take a detour to the view points at Vardehovda (1,190 metres above sea level) and Storeberget (1,129) with excellent view over Vats.

Here you continue in easy terrain, and you will now be able to see Kyrkjetjørne on your right-hand side, with Lake Versjø behind. The path now goes further on the left hand side of Versjø to Venebotn. Good path in open terrain. Great trip with a nice view and possibilities for a swim.

The path up to Sundreberget from Trolldalsvegen is quite steep, and the path from Øvre-Ålsvegen is not so steep. When you have reached the top you will have easier terrain with some increase towards the highest point of the trail. Marked path.
