Hiking in Gol in Hallingdal

Tour suggestions include Veslefjell Mountain and two round trips on the Gol mountain plateau. Trails are signposted.

About Gol

The Gol and Golsfjellet areas offer well prepared and safe hiking trails, up-to-date sign posting and easily accessible mountain tops. You will find rest stops with grill cabins and easily accessible lakes for swimming and fishing.

The main hiking season is from June to August.

Forrest clad valleys and splendid high mountain areas with both hilly and a flat terrain with a beautiful view to Jotunheimen, Hallingskarvet and Hemsedal.

Fjellferie AS offers walks from hotel to hotel in the Gol and Hallingdal mountains. Baggage transport is included.

Tour suggestions

Veslefjell

  • Distance: Approximately seven kilometres
  • Terrain: Mountain terrain, 1001 – 1149 metres above sea level
  • Time: Between one and two hours
  • Starting point: Storefjell ski lift
  • Parking: Storefjell
  • Sign: The hike is market
  • Directions to starting point: From Gol centre take the road 51 towards Fagernes. After approximately 13 kilometres turn off the road and drive for approximately four kilometres to Storefjell.       

           

Veslefjellrunden

Easy hike. Start the hike by the Storefjell ski lift. Follow the markings past Gullknappen and along the pond Veslefjell lake. Here you may choose if you want to hike alongside, or over Veslefjell, on your way to Storefjelltoppen. Follow the trail to Bjørnalie from Storefjelltoppen and down to the bottom station of the ski centre.                                   

  • Good rest stops: Grill cabin at Veslefjell is open all year.
  • Map: Free trail and road description brochure, available at accommodation business, sporting and the tourist information. Or use the hiking map "Gol" or "Gol-Fagernes", available in bookshops and the tourist information.

Round trip on Gol mountain plateau - short

  • Distance: Approximately 14 kilometres
  • Terrain: Mountain terrain, 1001 – 1126 metres above sea level
  • Time: Approximately three hours
  • Starting point: Storefjell Skilift
  • Parking: Storefjell
  • Sign: The hike is market
  • Directions to starting point: From Gol centre take road 51 towards Fagernes. After approximately 13 kilometres turn off the road and drive for approximately four kilometres to Storefjell.  

Round trip on Gol Mountain Plateau - long

A longer tour around the Golsfjellet plate. Start at Storefjell Skilift, pass Langhøgdi up to Syno top. (Lauvsetvarden). From her you have a nice view at Hallingskarvet, Jotunheimen and Hemsedal. Follow the track down from the top, and take the track to the right to Veslefjell. Then follow on the track passing Veslefjell and back to Storefjell Skilift.

  • Good rest stops: Outlet at the Syno top (Lauvsetvarden)
  • Recommend stops: Lauvsetvarden, Veslefjell
  • Map: Free trail and road description brochure, available at accommodation business, sporting and the tourist information. Or use the hiking map "Gol" or "Gol-Fagernes", available in bookshops and the tourist information.

Bualie - Ørterhovda - Appelsintreet

  • Distance: Approximately nine kilometres
  • Terrain: Mountain terrain, 905 – 1026 metres above sea level
  • Time: Approximately two hours
  • Starting point: Ørterstølen
  • Parking: Oset/ Bualie/Ørterstølen
  • Sign: The hike is market
  • Directions to starting point: From Gol centre take road 51 towards Fagernes. After approximately 13 kilometres turn to the left, follow sign towards Oset, and drive approximately seven kilometres to Ørterstølen, eight kilometres to Bualie or nine kilometres to Oset. 
  • Bualie: An easy hike with fantastic views. The trail starts at Ørterstølen, continues through Bualie and over Ørterhovda to Appelsintreet (the Orange Tree). If you want to make it a round trip, follow the road from Appelsintreet through Stølsdokki to lower part of Guriset. Then follow the road Osetvegen back to Ørterstølen.
  • Good rest stops: Ørterhovda
  • Recommend stops: Appelsintreet (The Orange Tree) or Ørterhovda
