Espedalen is one of the Gudbrandsdalen Valley's most beautiful mountain regions, with Ruten (1,517 metres above sea level) as its highest point. From the top, you get, on a clear day, wonderful views of the mountains of both Jotunheimen and Rondane national parks.
With such natural surroundings, good inland climate and plenty of snow, Espedalen offers most of what one would want from a real Norwegian ski and snow holiday. Magical winter landscapes will cast a spell on you; frozen lakes, deep woods with snow-covered trees provide good shelter, and the high country above the tree line provide fantastic views.
When
The season lasts from mid-December to mid-April.
Terrain
220 kilometres of tracks. There are family-friendly mini-circuits, trails in sheltered forest terrain and high mountain trails with wonderful views. You can choose from machine groomed, double tracked trails; simple snowmobile trails; or even those you make yourself - this is as close to nature as you can get!
Ski after dark
There is one floodlit track, located near Ruten and Dalseter. The track is approximately one-kilometre long and is lit every evening in the winter season until 11 pm.
Off-piste skiing
Plenty of possibilities for off-track skiing for cross-country skiers.

Cross-country, back-country, alpine, skins, snow-shoes and pulkas are all available at local hotels and lodges.

Additional information
Espedalen is primarily a cross-country area, but there is also a small alpine hill, well-suited to beginners and children. The slope is about 750 metres long and the hill has an altitude difference of 140 metres. The lift is situated near Dalseter. Other activities on offer locally include tobogganing, sleigh rides, ice canyoning, ice climbing, ice fishing, ice skating, guided tours, snowshoeing, children's activities. The nearest railway station is Vinstra, the nearest airport is Oslo Gardermoen.
