The Hamar Region is perfect for outdoor activities. Lake Mjøsa is the largest lake in Norway, and popular for boating, fishing and bathing in summer. The highlight is a voyage with the world's oldest steam paddler still running; Skibladner.
Lake Mjøsa is open all year round for fishing and no license is required. There are also excellent fishing opportunities in lakes and rivers throughout the area. Ice fishing is popular in the winter.
TrollingAdventure offers guiding with knowledge of nature. Trolling is fishing with spinning bait from a boat equipped with the latest in technical fishing gear. TrollingAdventure was founded by professional fisheries biologists and they can ensure guides with knowledge of nature and fishing techniques on your request.
Between July and Agust you can bring your skates with you to Vikingskipet (The Viking Ship) in Hamar and go speed skating on summer ice.
Sjusjøen Fritid and Sjusøen Sport specialises in nature based activities for groups and individuals at Sjusjøen. Malungen Opplevelser offers beaver safaris, canoeing, waterfall climbing and more.
For golfers, there are two golf courses in the region. Atlungstad Golf is situated right on the shores of Lake Mjøsa, and Mjøsen Golfklubb is a 18-hole course at Moelv in Ringsaker.
The Hamar Region offers a great variety of market days, theatre, opera, folk dance, concerts and sporting events throughout the year. The region is host to a number of annual festivals such as The Kirsten Flagstad Festival, Hamar Music Festival, the Medieval Festival at the Hedmarksmuseum, "Blåklokkevikua" at the Prøysen Museum and Home, The Ringsaker Opera and much more.
Hamar is also known for its indoor long track speed skating arena Vikingskipet ("The Viking ship"). It was built to host the speed skating competitions of the 1994 Winter Olympics. The Viking Ship Olympic Arena is also being used as the service park for Rally Norway, as a host for the world´s second largest computer party The Gathering, for big concerts and exhibitions.
