There are several great hiking and biking routes with varying degrees of difficulty. Up in the mountains the routes run along mountain roads.
The gentle landscape invites you to go fishing. The terrain is easy, and there are plenty of ponds and lakes to choose from. Hallingdalselva River in Nesbyen is also a favorite among anglers.
Go canoeing along the Hallingdalselva River from Nesbyen to Flå. Gerd's Canoe Rental will drive you to/pick you up wherever you wish. Fagerhøy Fjellstue and Ranten Hotell have canoes and rowing boats for hire on the idyllic Lake Mykingsjøen.
Nesbyen is considered one of Norway’s warmest places during summer, and holds the Norwegian heat record of 35,6 degrees Celsius. Pick a spot along Rukkedøla River, or find a mountain pond all to youself. Lake Trytetjern is a local favourite spot.
Nesbyen is the "old town" in Hallingdal. The village was the administration centre in the valley in the nineteenth and much of the twentieth century. You will find old houses in an idyllic part of the village, just by the museum and in the middle of the modern business quarters. Cosy cafés and galleries.
Hallingdal ride- og hestesportsenter has a building of international dimensions. The centre offers rental stables, riding in the mountains, riding classes in the arena and in the terrain. Courses in academic riding/baroque riding, natural horse handling and training. The centre also offers training in dressage, jump, driving, trotting, western genre and trail.
The golf course is situated at 700 metres above sea level, sheltered from the wind. The greens are wide and surrounded by small strips of tall pine trees. The course has 9 holes with 3 teeing grounds per hole. Red, white and yellow teeing grounds, the white is approximately 3,100 metres long - par 37. Practice greens, driving range and putting green. A café offering light dining and a proshop are also to be found at Nesbyen Golf Alpin.
