The drive across the Hardangervidda along rv. 7 to Eidfjord is an experience unto itself. You will pass famous landmarks such as Hallingskarvet (mountain gorge) and the Hardangerjøkul (glacier) before you get to Vøringsfossen. This famous waterfall has a height of 182 metres and is one of the most visited attractions in Norway. At Eidfjord you will find the Hardangervidda Nature Centre.
In Kongsberg you can visit the silver mines and the Norwegian Mining Museum. From here you can travel on the mine train 2.3 kilometres into the mountain and wander through the shafts where silver was extracted. You will also see how the miners worked, and in the summer there are many activities for children.
The Flåm Railway is one of the steepest stretches of railroad on a normal track in the world. The tunnel winds in and out of the mountain and is evidence of the most daring and skillful piece of engineering in Norwegian history. At the bottom of the Flåm Valley you can enjoy the beautiful cultural landscape and admire the scenic Aurlandsfjord, a sidearm of the world's longest fjord, the Sognefjord.
Rjukanfossen is the waterfall on which the hydroelectric power plant Vermork was founded, and in 1911 it was the world's biggest power station. Vemork was the scene of one of the most important sabotages during WW II, and is now a historic museum.
