Monocle recommends Oslo

The international magazine Monocle has ranked Oslo among 25 cities in the world to call home, based on a diverse and interesting life.

The capital of Norway

Oslo bursts onto this highly-regarded list for the first time, as number 17. According to Monocle, Oslo has shown how oil revenues can be used to create a generous welfare state and invest in new design, architecture and culture.

The magazine commends the new opera house and the ambitious projects which are being developed around the eastern waterfront. And, the magazine says:

“This is Oslo’s moment – the cultural scene is booming.”

Monocle’s quality of life index goes beyond the basic economic and social aspects of a city, identifying often looked over factors that can bring happiness and ease to everyday life. Aspects such as a well tended local bar, shopping hours, and access to green space make it the only quality of life index of its kind.
