Cross-country skiing in Rondane and Dovrefjell

With their all-white plateaus and snow-clad, majestic peaks, Rondane and Dovrefjell offer enjoyment and challenges for skiers of all abilities.

Glide across the plains from Høvringen and Mysuseter with the alluring Rondane massif in the distance. Kick off towards Mount Snøhetta and discover how it lives up to its name, "the Snow Cap". Or you can use the ski trails in Bjorli, straddling the border between eastern and western Norway, where snow is always plentiful. Slide down gentle slopes or throw yourself off vertical overhangs. Whatever your pace, one thing is sure - the spectacular scenery in Rondane and Dovrefjell will impress both seasoned skiers and novices.

The season lasts from October/November until February/March.

Terrain

The tracks are prepared for cross-country skiing, both classic and free style. You will find over 500 kilometres of tracks in Rondane and Dovrefjell, ranging from forest to open country and mountains.

Ski after dark

You can go skiing after dark down in the valley at Dombås, Bjorli and in Sel.

Off-piste skiing

If you feel adventurous, you can go off-piste skiing in the mountains. Ski maps are available at the tourist information offices in BjorliDombås and Otta.

Accessibility

Tracks are easily accessible by car and bus. You can also use the ski lift at Dombås and Bjorli to reach the top of the mountains. You will find good maps of all the trails at the tourist information offices in the region, as well as at all hotels and lodges.

Ski hire

You can hire skis at Høvringen, Dombås and Bjorli. Prices range from NOK 70 for one day to NOK 200 for a weekend and NOK 390 for a week.

Accommodation

You will find accommodations of all types close to the ski tracks in Rondane and Dovrefjell, ranging from four star hotels to affordable cabins. These include Høvringen Fjellstue, Formoseter, Øigardseter Fjellstue 
Rondane Haukliseter Fjellhotell, Rondeheim Den Norske Fjellskolen, Smuksjøseter FjellstueRondane SPA and Otta Hotel.

Additional information

Rondane and Dovrefjell offer lots of activities for both adults and children. You can sign up for snow shoe courses, skiing classes, dog sleigh trips and lots more. Rondane and Dovrefjell are easily accessible by car, train and bus. Typical stops include Bjorli station, Dombås station and Otta station. You will also find ski shuttles to the biggest ski destinations like Høvringen.
