Getting to Villmarksriket Hedmark and around

Villmarksriket Hedmark is within easy reach from Oslo, other parts of Eastern Norway and Sweden.

By car

The main routes from the south, from Oslo and the Swedish border are: E6, rv. 2 and rv. 20.

Arriving from Sweden, several routes lead to Villmarksriket Hedmark via locations such as Røros, Drevsjø, Trysil and Kongsvinger/Magnor.

From the fjords of Western Norway and the towering mountains in the north, rv. 3 will take you straight through Østerdalen. From Røros you follow rv. 30.

By plane

Oslo Airport Gardermoen is only an hour's drive from Villmarksriket Hedmark. In addition to domestic services, flights to/from 80 international destinations are available.

Røros Airport is located in the northern part of Villmarksriket Hedmark, and offers direct flights to and from Oslo Airport Gardermoen. Domestic flights are provided by SASNorwegian and Widerøe.

By train

Train is a relaxing way to experience Villmarksriket Hedmark. The Norwegian State Railways (NSB) offers three services through Villmarksriket Hedmark; the Røros Railway, the Dovre Railway and the Kongsvinger Railway.

By bus

Nor-Way Bussekspress covers the whole country and offers the following services in Villmarksriket Hedmark; the Trysil Express, the Østerdal Express, the Nordfjord Express, the Gudbrandsdal Express and the Røros Express.

Hedmark Trafikk is the local bus service provider in Villmarksriket Hedmark.

By boat

In Villmarksriket Hedmark, you can enjoy a trip on Mjøsa, Norway's largest lake, with Skibladner which is the world's oldest paddle steamer still in operation.

Alternatively, you can reach Femunden National Park with MS Fæmund II which operates on Lake Femunden - Norway’s second largest lake.

Both boat services are available during the summer season only.

Getting to the Hamar Region and around

The Hamar Region is located 120 kilometres north of Oslo, along the main road E6. It is rather easy to get to by car, train or bus.

Attractions in the Hamar Region

Visit the Hamar Cathedral, the Viking Ship Olympic Arena and the old brewery houses at Løten, or take a trip on Lake Mjøsa with Skibladner.

Getting to Rondane National Park and around

Mysuseter, Høvringen and Grimsdalen are all important gateways to Rondane. These are all easily accesible from the main road E6.

Getting to Røros and around

Situated in the middle of Norway, Røros is easily reached from Oslo and Trondheim. Røros Airport is in walking distance from the centre of Røros.

Getting to Trysil and around

Trysil lies in the heart of Scandinavia, 210 kilometres from Oslo and 470 kilometres from Stockholm. You can travel by bus or by personal transport.
