Tour suggestions in Ålesund and Sunnmøre

Use Ålesund as a starting point to explore the Geirangerfjord, the Hjørundfjord and the scenic coastline with islands and flourishing wildlife.

Bus and ferry cruise to Geiranger

Visit one of the world's most beautiful fjords and enjoy the Sunnmøre Alps on this combined round trip with coach and ferry from Hellesylt to Geiranger, where you can take in the marvellous scenery of the UNESCO-protected Geirangerfjord. You will spot small farms high above the fjord, and see great waterfalls such as Friaren (the Suiter) and De syv søstrene (the Seven Sisters). Book your ticket.

Fjord experience

The company 62ºNORD takes you to the impressive scenery of Fjord Norway. Kaiser Wilhelm loved the Hjørundfjord, the mountaineers Patchel and Slingsby were enraptured with the Nordangsdalen Valley and UNESCO placed the Geirangerfjord on their World Heritage List. When you have finished this trip you will understand why. Book your Fjord Experience.

Hjørundfjord cruise

The wild and majestic Hjørundfjord is just too beautiful to rush through. The sightseeing boat takes you along through the striking scenery that Kaiser Wilhelm valued so highly more than 100 years ago. Enjoy the stunning views of mountains and fjords at their most spectacular. Book your Hjørundfjord Cruise.

Wildlife sea safari

Join a wildlife safari along the coastline outside Ålesund in a high-speed rigid inflatable boat (RIB). The route is weather dependent, but normally includes visiting a seal colony and Runde Island's famous bird colonies with its eagles and puffins. You also pass some of the small communities along the coastline. Remember to bring binoculars and camera. Book Wildlife Sea Safari.

Boat trip to Alnes Lighthouse

Join Actin AS on a boat trip from Ålesund to Godøya and the fishing village of Alnes, where the ocean is the nearest neighbour. Enjoy the calm atmosphere at the picturesque Alnes Lighthouse. Optionally, you can join a hiking trip up the mountain of Godøyfjellet, newly featured on the cover of National Geographic Adventure Magazine. A fantastic view awaits from the top. Book a boat trip to Alnes Lighthouse.

Sea fishing off the coast of Møre

Welcome to a taste of the fishing opportunities along the coast of Møre. Departure from the port of Ålesund to try your fishing luck outside the town. There is a lot of fish in the area and you are guaranteed an exciting trip. Book a sea fishing trip

Bike/kayak rental

Would you like to go cycling? Actin AS offers bike and kayak rental, and new bikes are available for small or large groups. If requested, they can also help with planning bike routes of different levels and duration. Pre-order your bike.

Would you prefer to paddle? The company hires out 12 kayaks. The kayaks are safe and very stable - perfectly suited for persons with little experience in paddling. The kayaks are identical to the ones used in the Norwegian TV series 71 Nord. Pre-order your kayak.

Norangsdalen Valley

This is one of Norway's narrowest valleys, rich in cultural sights and experiences. Lygnstøylsvatnet Lake is the result of a landslide from Keipen in 1908. You can still see the ruins and remains of the old road, farm walls and wicket gates lying in the water. During the last century, the tourist ships anchored up at Øye. After the "Silver Anniversary Cruise" in 1993, the Norangsdalen valley acquired the nickname "The Queen's Route", and seven European queens have taken the trip through the valley since then. In Øye you will find the famous Hotel Union Øye - an attraction in itself.

Runde

Facing the ocean, on the west coast of the region lies the island of Runde. The small island has no more than 150 inhabitants, but from February to August every year the nesting season takes place and more than 500,000 birds gather on the island.

The Trollstigen Mountain Road

Experience one of Norway's most exciting tourist attractions, the Trollstigen Mountain Road, a fantastic road that winds its way up the mountain side through 11 hairpin bends. The road crosses the Stigfossen Waterfall on its way to its highest point, 852 metres above sea level.
