Mountain biking in Fjord Norway

Mountain biking tours vary from quiet rides along peaceful lakes to adrenaline pumping runs in the mountains and through steep forest paths.

Mountain biking in Geiranger

Around the idyllic Herdal mountain summer farm (Herdasseter) in Norddal, accessible from the ferry landing point at Eidsdal, you can make a 13-kilometre biking tour with a rise of 500 metres. Herdalsseter has been in operation for 300 years. It is one of the country's largest mountain summer farms with 30 old buildings and several hundred goats, cows, sheep and fjord horses. More information is available at herdalssetra.no.

If you want adventure and challenging trips, it is advisable to book a local guide who knows the area well. A recommended package is the Mountaineering Weekend with mountain biking in the stunning fjord landscape around Valldal, Fjørå, Liabygda and Eidsdal.

Mountain biking in Åndalsnes

From Kleiva in Romsdalen, you can explore the gigantic Mardøla Waterfall, with a total drop of a whopping 655 meters. The 20 kilometre trip goes north from Kleiva and passes Kalhøtjønna and Store Sandgrovvatnet. Stop for a break at Mardalstjønna with magnificent views of the Lake Eikesdal from mount Geitsia.

Try the 260 kilometres long ride from Oppdal to Åndalsnes, which is spectacular even by Norwegian standards. This trip has two tough climbs and a mix of paved and unpaved road surface, to the inland town of Oppdal. Ride through a rugged mountain landscape with a few thrilling descents. Along the way you pass farmland, waterfalls, narrow valleys and lakes. One of the highlights of this trip is to ride along the emerald coloured Eikesdalsvatnet Lake, surrounded by several of the tallest mountains in this area.

Choose between eight spectacular cycle trails around Åndalsnes, from exciting off-road biking through the forest to single track mountain trails with spectacular views of the fjord. More suggestions are available at romsdal.com
