Where to stay in the Sognefjord area

Stay beside emerald green fjords, blue glaciers and mighty waterfalls, on idyllic farms or high up in the mountains surrounded by jagged peaks.

Accommodation providers by the Sognefjord have played host to both rich and poor adventurers for hundreds of years, so the area can offer a great variety of accommodation.

Sleeping in sumptuous, historical rooms and eating local gourmet food is an experience in itself, but in several places, hosts go even further to make sure your stay is a unique experience. Why not join your hosts on a cycling trip or a mountain hike, sleep in a tent in an orchard, pick raspberries for dessert, bottle feed lambs, be waited on while you sit in an outdoor hot tub or join your host in a singsong around the piano?

Hotels, bed and breakfast, boarding houses, hostels, guest houses and lodges

The best known hotels in the Sognefjord area are the historical and romantic hotels, such as Kviknes in Balestrand, Walaker in Solvorn, Fretheim in Flåm, Mundal in Fjærland and Turtagrø in the Jotunheimen Mountains.

There are also many other cosy hotels, mountain hotels, boarding houses, youth and family hostels, mountain lodges, guest houses and even staffed mountain lodges/cabins - all run by the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT). At Fanaråken, you will find the highest-lying lodge of the DNT in Norway. There you can sleep at an altitude of 2,068 metres.

Camping, cabins, holiday houses and apartments

The Sognefjord area is particularly well-known for the large number of high standard cabins, converted wharfside warehouses, apartments and holiday houses it offers. The area's many idyllic camp sites have cabins in most sizes and price classes. There are also a large number of DNT cabins.
