Fishing

The region is a paradise for sports and hobby fishermen/women. Within an hour's radius you can find hundreds of fishing spots and numerous rivers. Sunnfjord is popular with professional fly fishermen seeking to catch trout. Naustdal is the realm of the salmon and is best known for the Nausta, one of Norway's best salmon rivers. Fishermen from Norway and abroad flock here in their eagerness to catch wild salmon.

Speed and thrills

In Sunnfjord you will find speed and thrills galore - everything from rafting to riverboard riding, glacier hiking, paintballing and abseiling. Take your pick. Jølster Rafting AS rafts in two rivers, Stardalselva and Jølstra. These offer rafting trips of various duration and degree of difficulty. NMK Sunnfjord has go-cart hire at Kråkenesmarka, and you can join a guided hike up on Haugabre Glacier in Jølster.

Golfing

Sunnfjord Golfklubb's course is a 9-hole par-70 course. Here you will find a spacious driving range with 23 driving mats and roofing over three of the mats, a large putting green, and green for "pitch", "chip" and bunker training. The clubhouse is the natural centre to meet up at with Proshop, for purchase and hire of equipment and cafe. The course is located at Vassenden in Jølster by the E39, 18 kilometres from Førde.

Hiking

Hiking in Sunnfjord provides you with a marvellous view over the mountains in Fosseheimen, the fjords, glacier and the sea. One of the highest mountains in Sunnfjord is Mt. Storehesten in Bygstad (1,209 metres above sea level).

Fossestien (the Waterfall Trail) is a hiking trail from Gaularfjellet to Viksdalen, 21 kilometres long, and with an altitude difference of 500 metres. The trail follows old tracks formerly used by animals and people. Along the way you will pass 14 large waterfalls and seven lakes. This scenic nature trail follows the main branch of the Gaular watercourse, which received state protection in 1993.
